I’m Kris and I am a 20 year-old idealist from Mississippi.
When I was in the first grade, I was in a Earth Day program. I played The First Tree to Die. It was honestly traumatizing. Since then, I’ve been ready to save the world. I didn’t want trees to experience what I had to.
Jumping back to current day: I’m studying German at the University of Mississippi! I hope to study even more after undergrad (psycholinguistics, constructed languages, ecofeminism). (Yes, I’m still changing this last sentence frequently.)
I also blog about my experiences studying abroad!
I am really passionate about the Earth and being kind to her! The Mississippi River and Appalachian Trail are my two favorite places. I want to make sure generations down the line will be able to enjoy these wonders of America just like I have!
Another passion of mine is education–especially when it comes to gender equality in education! I have been tutoring from the time I was 12 years-old and I’ve been in love with it every since! I’ve had so many opportunities through my education, that I am endlessly thankful for. Growing up, I knew not to take my education for granted. I have heard from women all over the world how difficult it was for them to get an education. Not only were they facing physical barriers such as walking extreme distances in unbelievable heat or cold to their schools, but they also faced intimidation and threats. Girls all over the world are forced to stay home and told that education is not for them. Studying math and science for much of my life, I faced a lot of opposition from those who believe these subjects are not for girls. This is nothing compared to what girls are experiencing every day across the world, but my small taste of these barriers has proven to me that no girl should feel this way. If I can help girls achieve their dreams and further their education, I know I am doing the right thing.
Personal Mission Statement
My overall well-being is my first priority; closely following are my connections such as family and friends.
I don’t want to just listen; I want to hear.
I don’t want to heal people; I want to teach people how to heal themselves.
I don’t want to just band together to save the Earth; I want to do so much that the Earth will never need saving again.
I want to share so much love and so much knowledge that when I leave this Earth I wouldn’t have any more to give if I stayed a second longer.
